TURBULENCE MODEL NUMERICAL ANALYSIS

Grids - 3D Modified Supersonic Square Duct Case

The methodology to create a series of nested 3-D grids is provided. By default, the provided Fortran program creates 8 grids with hex cells, ranging from total point count of 1,590,169,729 (finest) down to 1078 (coarsest):

There are options for outputting different types of grids. The grids are built in nondimensional units, with full duct width D taken to be 1 unit. Due to use of symmetry boundary conditions, only one quarter of the duct is computed (y and z ranges are from 0 to 0.5). The grid is stretched in the two wall-normal directions. The figure below shows a view of one plane of the finest grid.

A simple FORTRAN program is used to create the grids. It is available here:

The default grids created by this program are the same as those used in AIAA-2021-1552, https://doi.org/10.2514/6.2021-1552 and https://doi.org/10.2514/6.2021-1552.c1. In that paper, only the 4 finest grids were used:

The user can also modify the input.

A somewhat older set of grids can be found here: Grids - 3D Modified Supersonic Square Duct Case (old).
