ABSTRACT: MEASUREMENTS OF VELOCITY FLUCTUATIONS IN THE WAKE OF A THIN NON-LIFTING AEROFOIL ARE PRESENTED. THE FLOW IS SYMME- TRICAL IN CASE 0381 AND ASYMMETRICAL IN CASE 0382. IN THE ASYMMETRICAL CASE THE UPPER SURFACE OF THE AIRFOIL WAS ROUGHENED TO INCREASE THE SURFACE SHEAR STRESS. MEASUREMENTS ARE CONFINED TO THE NEAR WAKE, WHERE THE DISTURBED REGION LIES WITHIN THE INNER LAYERS OF THE ORIGINAL BOUNDARY LAYERS. THE SYMMETRICAL CONFIGURATION IS SIMILAR TO THAT USED BY CHEVRAY AND KOVASZNAY (AIAA J. 7, 1641), ALTHOUGH THE REYNOLDS NUMBER IS TEN TIMES HIGHER IN THE PRESENT CASE. TURBULENCE MEASUREMENTS WERE MADE WITH DISA TYPE 55D01 CONSTANT TEMPERATURE ANEMOMETERS AND DISA MINIATURE CROSS-WIRE PROB TYPE 55A38 WITH 5 MICRON PLATINUM WIRES. ALL PRODUCTS OF VELOCITY FLUCTUATIONS U AND V AND TEMPERATURE FLUCTUATION UP TO THIRD ORDER WERE EVALUATED BY THE ANALYSIS PROGRAM AFTER ANALOG-TO-DIGITAL CONVERSION. CHECKS FOR TWO-DIMENSIALITY WERE MADE AT THE TRAILING EDGE AND THE MOST DOWNSTREAM STATION. PITOT TRAVERSES INDICATED TWO-DIMENSIONAL FLOW WITHIN 1 TO 2% OF THE MEAN-VELOCITY PROFILES OVER 70% OF THE PLATE SPAN AT THE TRAILING EDGE, AND 50% OF THE TUNNEL WIDTH AT X = 500 MM. 6.
