2D Zero Pressure Gradient High Mach Number Flat Plate Validation Case

K-e-Rt Model Results

Link to k-e-Rt equations

K-e-Rt - cf vs Retheta K-e-Rt - u+ vs y+ at Retheta=10000

Note that thorough grid studies were not performed for validation cases such as this one. Some effort was made to ensure reasonable grid resolutions, but there may still be small noticeable discretization errors. Therefore, these validation results shown should be considered representative, but not "truth."

Above results are from CFD++ on the 545x385 grid. CFD++ used freestream turbulence intensity=1.0% and freestream turbulent viscosity (relative to laminar)=10. Please read note 5 on Notes on running CFD page. These are compressible code results using no compressibility corrections. Note that for these high-speed cases the Bradshaw realizability limiter \phi = 0.31 in the k-e-Rt model was used (see the posted model description page). Also, rather than use integration to compute Re_theta, eqn 18b from the following reference was employed to estimate theta: "The Calculation of the Compressible Turbulent Boundary Layer in an Arbitrary Pressure Gradient - A Correlation of Certain Previous Methods" by B.S. Stratford and G.S. Beavers, R. & M. No. 3207, 1961. The right-hand plot is extracted from the location where Retheta=10000.

Note that this model is currently assigned MRR Level 1 for the purposes of this website. This is because at this time the TMBWG has results for this model from only one code. The results on this page are therefore not necessarily reliable until additional independent code(s) can be used to verify the model implementation.
